If yes, then we must say that this travel destination on your bucket list will certainly not disappoint you. This is because the diversity in terms of the topography found in this area is so immense that it would not bore you out. Rather every place that you visit in Skardu will leave you mesmerized like never before.
To ensure that you make the most out of your trip to Skardu, Guestkor brings you an article on all the places which you can visit while exploring the awe-worthy capital of the Skardu District. Enveloped in the snow-covered mountains, the Satpara Lake is a natural lake which provides water to the Skardu valley.
The lake provides a stunning view of the passersby with its crystal blue water. Reaching through country boats, you can enjoy fishing at the Satpara lake as it is full of delicious fish. Among the various archeological sites found in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, the Kharpocho Fort was constructed on the bank of the River Indus in the Skardu District.
The fort provides a stunning overview of the entire district. When translated, the Kharpocho Fort means King of forts. Katpana desert in Skardu Deserts are generally known for their hot temperatures. However, you will be amazed to find that there are cold deserts too and that too within Pakistan. Amazing huh? Popularly known as the cold desert, the Katpana desert is situated at a height of 14000 ft. and is the world’s highest cold desert. The desert provides one of the rarest sights whereby white sand meets snow-capped mountains.
It is, therefore, one of the most visited tourist spots in the Skardu District. Located at the borders of the mighty mountain ranges of the Karakoram and the Himalayas, a major part of the Deosai National Park falls under the Skardu District. When translated in Urdu, the word Deosai means the “land of giants”.
The park is often considered to be the second-highest plateau in the world. Accessible only in the summer season, the Deosai National Park was originally formed to protect the various species of endangered animals including snow leopard, red fox, Himalayan ibex, and Himalayan brown bear. Located at a distance of 32 kilometers (20 miles) from Skardu, the Kachura lake is a sight worth seeing.
This is because the banks of the lake provide a rare yet enthralling image of the colorful flowers and peach, apricot and apple trees, especially in the spring season. Kachura is famous for its trout and it is, therefore, a popular fishing spot for trout lovers.
