Anakar or Andrab lake at an elevation of around 11,000 ft from sea level is one of the biggest and most beautiful lakes of Swat valley. Rarely visited by tourists, Anakar lake is also known as Kooh lake among the locals which means color changing lake. Andrab lake is accessible 4 to 5 months a year from a recently developed campsite named as Bluewater in Anakar village. Trekkers can access the lake from Kalam by hiring a jeep of 4x4 car from Kalam valley which takes 45 minutes to reach the blue water campsite which serves as the base camp for the lake. Bluewater site is surrounded by lush green unspoiled forest of Anakar and the valley is dominated by the gushing stream of Bankhwar which originates from the surround mountains of Andrab lake. The trek to lake takes around 6 hours from Bluewater campsite and the entire track lies to the right of the stream. The track and the Anakar valley was badly destroyed by the 2010 flood and flood debris and huge boulders brought by the flood still lie beside the stream. The trek itself is beautiful and passes through a couple of summer settlements of shepherds. Andrab banda, at the base of the lake is one of the most beautiful meadows in the vicinity and serves as an ideal camping site as firewood is usually not available at the lake.
