Red Fort is located at a very scenic location along the bank of the Neelam River. Though many parts of the fort are in ruins, it was very heartening to learn from authentic sources that Govt of AJ&K has undertaken a fort restoration program. The work is being done by a firm that specializes in restoring ancient sites.
Even in the current shape when hardly any room has a roof intact and many of the walls are in shambles, the small fort does convey what a majestic and imposing building of its time it would have been.
The construction of the fort was started in 1549 by Chuk Rulers and it continued in stages up to the 20th century. For those interested in history, Red Fort is a must-go site in Muzaffarabad.
