Kot Digi lies approximately 32 minutes drive from GIMS. Formerly known as Ahmedabad fort, it lies 28 miles east of River Indus at the edge of Nara Registan. It was built by Mir Suhrab Khan Talpur between 1785 to 1795. It was one of the three forts built to secure the Khairpur Kingdom, the other two being "Imam Garh in Thar" and "Shah Garh in Jaisalmer/Jodhpur. The fort is built of kiln-baked bricks on a 110 feet high limestone hill, with walls as high as 30 feet covering a perimeter of 18km. It is secured with 3 elephants defying massive gates arranged at right angles, to minimize damage by an invading army. Its wall features nooks for spear lancers, nitches for archers, and 4 massive cannons were placed in 4 major directions, however, the fort remained un-attacked throughout its history. The weather here is hot in daylight hours and cool to cold at night. The fort overlooks the Khair Pur district with its lush green date palm grooves in all four directions for miles around. A must-visit place for adventure-seeking souls.
