People say that a person’s travel expedition is incomplete if he/she does not try out the local delicacies that a travel destination has to offer.
This is perhaps because of the common belief that food offers, the tourists, a unique yet clear insight about a place’s culture and heritage. As part of their exploration, the tourists can go on a food hunt by gobbling down the mouth-watering food that the street vendors are busy selling or by trying out the refined yet finger licking offerings of the restaurants.
This diverse nature of the food offered speaks volume about people’s behavior and lifestyle. If you want to explore the diverse culture then Karachi, the biggest city of Pakistan, is your ‘must-go-to’ place. Often called the financial hub of the country, the city of Karachi is a beautiful mosaic of cultures, ethnicity, and religions which is also reflected in its diverse yet mouth-watering cuisines.
The sticky sauce along with the soft meat that melts in your mouth, garnished with the fresh ginger and coriander will certainly leave you wanting more with its spicy taste. Adding bone marrow or brain will take your scrumptious meal of Nihari to another level. Tikka is the local name for chicken which is marinated in yogurt and spices and then grilled with the help of skewers.
The grilled cuisine was brought about to the city by Bundo Khan and has since been very popular among Karachiites. Complemented with various chutneys and raita, tikka is usually eaten with crispy deep fried paratha or naan.
The sound of sharp knives is simply exhilarating when it falls hard on the Karhai to chop the various organs into a rich mix of flavors. The dish is primarily made out of various organs of goat or cow. Served with piping hot naans that come straight out of tandoors, the taste of this dish is simply out of this world. Biryani is what you get when the combination of rice and meat is at its best.
The delectable blend of meat, rice, and spices drizzled with raita is a common favorite among all Karachiites and is available in various versions. When the meat is braised in a spicy sauce, which is made up of yogurt and various spices, it results in a delicious dish called Korma. The cuisine is extremely popular among Karachiites and is often found being served in weddings.
What is merely known as fried chicken in the western world, the locals call it broast. Marinated in spices and then covered in the crust, the chicken is then deep fried in oil to make what is known as a crispy chicken broast.
It is served with a gracious serving of fries and dinner rolls. One of the most popular dishes in Karachi. Shami Kabab emerged as one of the most demanded versions of kebab. The taste of the runny minced sauteed in butter rather than ghee is simply mind-blowing.
