Dera Ismail Khan is the divisional city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan which is surrounded by Zhob, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Laki Marwat and Stripe of South Waziristan and Sindh River. This city is famous for many historical places like Rehman Dheri registered in world heritage of Unesco, Kafir Kot, Darazinda, Raghasar, Nakhlistan Park, Sohan Halwa of DI Khan, Dhaki Dates and Khajoor, Mughal Era's Lal Mahra Tombs, Sobat (Painda) and Sheikh Badin mountain range. If we talk about history of Dera Ismail Khan then it is said that in 15th century there was a Sultan of Multan whose name was Shah Hussain Lahnga Sadozai. Shah Husseyn's troops included some of Baloch Sardars/Warriors. One of them was Sardar Ismail Khan who was appointed at Dera Ismail Khan region and he built this city with his own name. In 1823 due to severe Sindh river flood the whole area was destroyed and was re-established by Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan Sadozai in 1824 or 1825.

Dera Ismail Khan is named due to Raja Ismail Khan. Dera has beautiful weather from March to May and September to November but summer is usually very hot there. Dera division includes Tank district and DI Khan Districts and 6 tehsils like Tehsil Draban, Tehsil Kulachi, Tehsil Prova, Tehsil Darazinda, Tehsil DI Khan and Tehsil Paharpur. Politically district has 2 National Assembly seats while provincial assembly includes 5 seats only. Dera Ismail Khan was severly affected due to bomb blasts by Taliban and other terrorist groups from 2008 to 2014.
