Hingol National Park – An Add On To Pakistan’s Wild Life
Located on the Makran Coast, approximately 190 Km from Karachi is the largest National Park of Pakistan which is spread around 610,043 ha. It hosts Pakistan’s largest wildlife sanctuary which includes species like Marsh Crocodile (), Olive Ridley () and Green Marine Turtles.
This landmark is also known for endemic and endangered species of fish, including Mahasheer and schools of Plumbeous Dolphins. In order to preserve its endangered species, this land was declared reserved in 1988.
It is spread over Lasbela, Gwader and Owaran districts containing a variety of topographical features and vegetation, including arid subtropical forest in the north to arid mountains in the west. In addition to it, a huge part of the park is covered with drift sand which makes it seem like a coastal semi-desert. HP is also known for its diversified sanctuary of birds and underwater species.
According to the sources, this park has been the habitat of over 3000 ibexes, 1500 Urials, and more than 1200 Chinkaras. In addition to this, the River Hingol has been a home for crocodiles for centuries now. Particularly the species including the Marsh Crocodile , Olive Ridley and Green Marine Turtles are on the verge of getting extinct and are now rarely found in other parts of the world.
Sources report, that schools of Plumbeous Dolphins most commonly known as Sousa plumbea are found in the inshore areas of the park. Hingol National Park makes a perfect destination for a road trip from Karachi to Balochistan.
