Famous for the cultural heritage, Lahore is considered as the cultural capital of Pakistan and is one of the main tourist hubs. It is also frequently referred to as the Mughal city of Gardens due to the prevailing influence of Mughal emperors. From food to shopping to picnic spots to old monuments, Lahore has it all! 1. Tomb of Jahangir Lahore is full of beautiful and historical places. Among these places the Tomb of Jahangir, which is the final resting place of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. The tomb was built by Jahangir’s son, Shah Jahan, ten years after his father’s death and is a breathtaking monument with beautiful architecture and design.
2. Lahore Zoo Established in 1872, the Lahore zoo is one of the biggest zoos of South Asia. The Government of Pakistan has invested a lot in it, especially in the wildlife department. The Lahore zoo provides recreation, relaxation, and enjoyment for the citizens of Lahore and other tourists.
3. Lahore Fort/ Shahi Qila The Lahore Fort is a beautiful place to visit. It is called Shahi Qila by the people of Lahore and is situated in the northwest corner of the Lahore city. The Mughal Emperor Akbar laid the foundation of this Lahore fort which provides panoramic views of the old city.
4. Anarkali Bazar Anarkali Bazar is one of the oldest markets of South Asia. It was named after a slave girl of Emperor Akbar, Anarkali, who was buried alive as punishment (by Emperor Akbar) for falling in love with his son. Anarkali Bazar is the hub of garments, jewelry, textiles and a lot of cultural items which attract a lot of tourists to this area.
5. Badshahi Mosque Badshahi Mosque is a masterful work of Islamic art and dates back to Mughal times. It is the 2nd largest mosque in Pakistan and the 5th largest in the World. Beautifully constructed, the mosque attracts a lot of tourists and worshippers alike. Additionally, the Badshahi Mosque has become popular for Nikkah ceremonies.
6. Minar-e-Pakistan Minar-e-Pakistan is a public monument and located in Iqbal Park Lahore. It was constructed during the ’60s, on the site where on 23 March 1940, the Lahore Resolution (the first official call for a separate homeland for the Muslims living in South Asia) was passed. The Park around the monument provides eye-catching views for tourists.
7. Jinnah Garden This historical garden has been named after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Situated close to the Lahore zoo, on the famous Mall road, Jinnah Garden is a must-visit tourist attraction. There are thousands of different kinds of plants and trees in this garden and people come to relax, for picnics, or morning strolls on the walking track. The best thing about this garden is that vehicles are not allowed making it a very relaxing, quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
8. Khussa Mahal Established during the ’80s, Khussa Mahal is considered as the best Khussa store in all of Pakistan. There are a plethora of stores here, and people actually fly from all over Pakistan to purchase fine quality shoes. The market is always bustling with activity and the options of shoes are limitless.
9. Wagah Border The Border between Pakistan and India is a tourist hub. Every day, two hours before sunset, there is a “Wagah border flag ceremony” conducted by jointly by Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force. The ceremony starts with a parade by the soldiers from both sides, and it ends with a perfectly coordinated lowering of Pakistan and India flags. 10. Gaddafi Stadium Gaddafi Stadium is a cricket ground in Lahore, designed by the same architect and engineer who also designed Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan.
The ground was renovated for the 1996 Cricket World Cup when it hosted the final. It is the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan with a capacity of 60,000 spectators and has also hosted the 1990 Hockey World Cup Final.
