In the utmost north of Pakistan, Skardu the prime valley of Gilgit-Baltistan is an essence of beauty, peace, and wilderness. Routes to some of the world’s towering mountains that includes K2, K3, and Gasherbrum; all are attached through this valley.

These towering mountains attract thousands of climbers from all over the world each year; some have even lost their lives in efforts to summit these steep climbs. After Jaglot on the Karakoram Highway, a small road twists towards Skardu.

Throughout the seven-hour drive, one is welcomed with numerous streams, springs, and the hospitality of the native people. Soon after passing the old wooden bridge built over the River Indus, one approaches Shangrila.

This is where Arif Aslam, Chairman of Shangrila Resorts, has built a fascinating world amidst the surreal mountains. Leading up is Kachhura Village, where Kachhura Lake’s crystal clear water is enclosed by old climactic trees. Seeing the sun rise behind the mountains is a captivating scene. This was the first time, I had seen such a peaceful sunrise over Indus. Shangrila Resort Skardu, also known as "Heaven on Earth". It encircles the heart shaped “Kachura Lake” and is surrounded by fruit laden orchards and flower filled gardens.
