Festivals of Pakistan

There are many holidays and festivals celebrated annually in Pakistan.

While Pakistan is an Islamic nation, there are also several secular holidays celebrated in Pakistan.

1. Jashan-e-Larkana: (Last week of February) At Larkana (Sindh) Traditional sports, an exhibition of handicrafts, folk music and dances.

2. Horse & Cattle Show: (End of March till 1st week of April). At Dera Ismail Khan. Local games, folk dances, music, cattle races and exhibition of local handicrafts.

3. Phool: (20 - 25 September) Held in Kalash Valleys near Chitral. Reaping grapes and walnuts, dancing and singing.

4. Chowmas: (18-21 October) Held in Kalash Valleys near Chitral. Welcoming of winter with first snow-fall. Activities restrict to indoor.

5. Sindh Horse & Cattle Show: (Last week of February) At Jacobabad (Sindh). Similar activities as in Sibi Festival.

6. Independence Day : (14 August) This glorious day is a landmark in our history to commemorate the independence of Pakistan.

7. Defense of Pakistan Day: (06 September) The 6th of September is a golden chapter in the history of Pakistan when Pakistan, it's military and people stood united in 1965 in defense of Pakistan. This historic day is commemorated through parades and exhibitions of military equipment at Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Karachi.

8. Bassant: With the advent of spring Basant Festival is celebrated with pomp and show in mid-February every year in Lahore. In other words, this is the spring festival.

9. Sibi Festival: (Last week of February) This festival falls in the last week of February at Sibi. Traditional sports, handicrafts exhibition, folk music, and dances.

10. Shandur Polo Festival: Traditional polo tournament between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit is being held on the highest polo ground of the world every year from 7th to 9th July.

11. Utchal: (15-16 July) This event is celebrated by Kalash people in Kalash Valleys, Chitral. It is celebrated to mark the harvest of wheat and barley. The celebration lasts for two days with dancing, singing, and feasting being its main features.

12. Lok Mela: (1st week of October, for one week) The festival presents a unique opportunity to watch the culture and craft of the whole country in one place. This Folk Festival is held for one week at Islamabad. It includes Folk Music, songs, music contests, folk dances, craftsmen at work, exhibition and sale of handicrafts.

13. National Horse & Cattle Show Lahore: (3rd week of November for 05 days ) Held at Fortress Stadium, Lahore. Cattle races, cattle dances, tent-pegging, tattoo show, folk music, dances, bands, cultural floats, and folk games.

14. Jashan-e-Shikarpur: (In April for 01 weeks) At Shikarpur, Sindh. Cultural activities, local sports and handicrafts exhibition.

15. Joshi or Chilemjosht: (14-15 May) Kalash festival of welcoming spring, held in Kalash Valleys near Chitral. Folk dances, music, and exchange of dishes.

16. Nauroze: (21-23 March) Celebrated only in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, and Chitral. Polo, football, volleyball and hockey matches, folk dances and music

17. Summer Festival Swat: The Swat Summer Festival is annually held in Kalam and in Mahee Dhaan (Mahu Dand) — an enchanting valley and lake at an altitude of 10,500 feet from sea level — which can by now be accessed via every type of vehicle. It is 35 km from Kalam. It takes two hours to reach there by the bank of an emerald stream from the lakes and glaciers above the valley.

Mystic Music Sufi Festival: Rafi Peer's Mystic Music Sufi Festival is one of Pakistan's most celebrated events that bring together Sufi artists from a vast variety of disciplines and cultures from across Pakistan and joins them as one, creating a magnificent, unforgettable showcase promoting peace, harmony, tolerance, and compassion. The Mystic Music Sufi Festival is a beautiful culmination of music, poetry, thoughts, and philosophies, drawing a huge and diverse audience to the festival venue over the three-day event. to date, the festival has staged some of the most remarkable collaborations and performances to ever have graced the stages of Pakistan.

19. 60 Seconds Film Festival: The only festival in Pakistan for filmgoers with a small concentration span. Multi-genre films from all over the world that aim to woo you in 60 seconds or less.

20. International Folk Puppet Festival: It is celebrated once in a year where puppet master all across the world gathers together to show their skills in front of the audience. It was celebrated last year on 18th January to 21st Jan 2018 at Rafi Peer Cultural Center, 7 KM Raiwind Road Lahore

21. Sehwan Festival: The urs is celebrated on the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan Sharif for three days every year.

22. Holi: Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival which is celebrated by the Hindu minority on 20, 21st May. The dates of the event may vary though.

23. Cholistan Rally: it is a jeep rally festival celebrated every year in the Cholistan where the jeep racers come together and compete with each other. It is celebrated on 2nd or 3rd week of February every year.

24. Third Jeep Rally: it is a jeep rally festival celebrated in the southwestern part of the Punjab where jeep enthusiasts get together for the jeep rally competition. It was celebrated in Muzaffargarh on November 18 in 2018

25. Eid festivals: Eid festivals includes two Eid festivals i.e Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha which are being celebrated once in a year by the Muslims all over the world.

26. Daata Darbar: The urs of Ali Hajvery aka Data Darbar is celebrated in Lahore at Daata Darbar on 28 October every year for three days.

27. Baisakhi: Vaisakhi, also known as Baisakhi, Vaishakhi, or Vaisakhi is a historical and religious festival in Sikhism. It is usually celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year by the Sikh community.

28. Christmas: It is celebrated on the 25th of December every year by the Christians as the birthday of Jesus.

29. New Year's Eve: New Year Eve is celebrated all over the world as the celebration of the new coming year on the night of 31st December till midnight.

30. Food Festivals: Food Festivals like Coke Festival and 7up festival for foodies are being very much popular in the past 3 years. It's been celebrated every year on various different dates in the cities of Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad.

31. Mela Chiraghan: Mela Chiraghan or Mela Shalimar is a three-day annual festival to mark the urs of the Punjabi poet and Sufi saint Shah Hussain who lived in Lahore in the 16th century. It is celebrated every year on 30 March.

32. Lok Mela: The ceremony includes live folk performances by artists from Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B). it will be celebrated from October 1st to 6th in 2019 all across Pakistan.

33. Ski Festival Naltar Valley: The naltar ski festival is being celebrated at the end of January every year. Recently it was celebrated on 28th January where 38 skiers from 12 different countries gathered together for the competition.

34. Malam Jabba SKI Festival: It is celebrated every year in the last week of December where ski competition is held in Malam Jabba.

35. Punjab Sports Festival: Events from different sporting activities that range from gymnastics to athletics are held in the Punjab Sports Festival where students and athletes from all over Punjab come to compete.

36. Qaqlasht Festival: The festival has been celebrated in April every year in the Qaqlasht plateau near Booni for to promote the Khow culture including the traditional games and sports of Chitral.

37. Gianni Festival Hunza Valley: Gianni Festival. Gianni Festival is Celebrated from 21st June to 25th June. The traditional “Ginani'' festival has been celebrated in Central and Lower parts of Hunza valley, with traditional zeal and fervor. Main gatherings were organized in Altit and Aliabad villages.

38. Eid Milad-Un-Nabi: The birthday of the Holy Prophet [P.B.U.H] is celebrated every year by the Muslims all around the world on 9th and10th November. 39. Maha Shivratri: Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva at the end of February every year.

40. Air Force Day: Air Force Day is celebrated in Pakistan as a national day on 7 September, after the annual celebration of the Defence Day. Airshows and other programs mark the Pakistan Air Force's role in defending the nation in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.

41. Jashn-e-Azadi Gilgit: it is celebrated on Nov 1 in the memory of independence from India after the 1947 war between India and Pakistan.

42. Chomas Festival: Annual religious festival of Kalash community Chomas (Chaturmas) concluded at Kalash valley. This festival starts from December 7 to welcome the new year and to celebrate the autumn season of the scenic valley. This festival celebrating simultaneously at three valleys of Rumbor, Birir, and Bumburate.

43. Ethnic fashion shows in Pakistan: Fashion shows are held by different sponsors in Pakistan in every season like summer and winter. Bridal fashion week is also held on the start of the wedding season in Pakistan.

44. Lok Virsa Folk Festival: The largest cultural activity in Pakistan is the annual National Folk Festival (Lok Mela), held in October each year to promote the Pakistani folk music and culture.

45. Food & Fruit Fair: Food festivals are held in cooperation with hotels and communities in several places. Farmers will exhibit and sell fruit in every seasonal fruits i.e mango.

46. Diwali: Diwali, Deepavali or Dipavali is Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn on 27 October.

47. Music Mela: In the Pakistani kitty of festivals Music Mela is a new addition which is celebrated in 2nd week of April. However, it seems quite promising. Music teachers and famous artists are a part of the festival. Live music performances are the beauty of the festival.

48. Shab-e-Barat: Religious festival celebrated on 14th of Shaaban, the 8th Islamic month. Prayers, fireworks, exchange of sweet dishes and visits.

49. Karakoram Car Rally: A colorful closing/award giving ceremony was held in Hunza Valley. Prizes, shields, certificates were distributed among the rallies. SAF-International Karakoram Car Rally was also planned for the year 2001, but it was postponed. International Karakoram Car Rally has been proposed to be held during the month of November in 2002 as part of the International Year of Mountains celebrations.

50: Birth Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam: It is celebrated all over Pakistan on the 25th of December every year by the Pakistanis.
